MERRIAM CITY — City staff told the council Tuesday that the procurement process for a single-hauler solid-waste contract is on schedule, with a mandatory pre-bid meeting and a Feb. 14 deadline for submissions.
Public Works staff member Ms. Gard said the RFP is posted and that a mandatory pre-bid meeting for prospective haulers will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the City Hall Community Training Room. An addendum responding to clarifying questions has already been issued, she said.
Ms. Gard said the city has formed a work group to evaluate bids and called out that some city services included in the RFP are optional for haulers to offer; the work group will confirm insurance, licensing and other requirements before recommending a contract to the council. She told councilmembers that she expects to have initial cost estimates as soon as bids are reviewed, but that a follow-up meeting of the work group will be needed to validate bids before releasing any figures to the public.
Councilmember Lehi, a member of the work group, asked that Ms. Gard note questions in the addendum that were informational rather than mandatory for selection; Ms. Gard confirmed she would. The mayor also noted that other area cities and mayors are watching the procurement.
