The City Manager reported several operational updates to the commission, including public transit ridership figures, the status of a federal grant for drug treatment court, branding work and a forthcoming comprehensive community event guide.
The manager said city bus ridership was 2,330 in January and nearly the same in February. On criminal-justice programming, the manager said the drug treatment court is supported by a federal grant with remaining funds that the city has asked to extend so the program can continue into early 2026; the manager said the city had some earlier grant coordination delays and is pursuing an extension and secondary funding options if the federal extension or future grant funding is not approved, including gifts and donations, opioid funds, or the 1¢ sales tax crime prevention line.
The manager said they met with Judge Maxwell and Kim to discuss the drug treatment court and plan to invite them to a future meeting to present program details. The manager said they will attend a court session soon to observe the program.
On city image and events, the manager said staff met with Commissioners Landry and Vasquez about a logo redesign and that a comprehensive, clickable community event guide (covering parade planning, temporary liquor permits and other steps) should be ready by May to help applicants plan events earlier. The manager also thanked first responders after a minor plane-landing mishap at the airport; no injuries were reported.
Commissioners expressed appreciation for staff and for outside donations that support city departments. Several commissioners encouraged community attendance at a KDOT meeting later the same evening.
