The Gardner City Utilities Advisory Commission recorded three formal recommendations or approvals during its Feb. 6 meeting:
1) Power purchase agreement (PPA) extension — The commission recommended that the City Council approve a 25-year PPA extension with GRDA/KMEA for 9 megawatts of capacity. (See separate article for full discussion.)
2) Specialty trucks — The commission approved purchasing two specialty vehicles (an articulating telescopic aerial bucket truck and a distribution digger truck) after staff reported that purchase is cheaper than leasing. The single bid shown in the presentation was from Maltec with quoted prices of $324,333 and $337,004.58 for the two vehicles (84-month warranties). The commission approved the purchase by motion; vote recorded as unanimous.
3) Forklift contract — The commission authorized the city administrator to execute a contract with Midwestern Equipment LLC for a used propane forklift (listed in the packet as a 02/2019 machine) for $43,790. The commission approved the contract by motion; vote recorded as unanimous.
Motions were made during the meeting and carried without recorded opposition. The commission’s approval for each item constitutes a recommendation or administrative authorization; final procurement and contract execution will follow city purchasing rules and, for the PPA, City Council action.
