Tuckahoe holds open hearing on proposed short-term rental rules; board awaits county registry decision

Tuckahoe trustees kept a public hearing open Feb. 10 to consider proposed modifications to the village code related to short-term rentals while officials await further direction from Westchester County.
A resident, Samantha of 72 Main Street, asked whether corporations were likely to buy properties to operate multiple short-term rentals. The board said the draft local legislation is still under development and that the village intends to coordinate with the county to determine whether the county will maintain a registry of short-term rental operators.
"We have a draft of legislation, but we're waiting. That's why we still have the public hearing open because the county now, there's a possibility that the county will be involved in terms of keeping a registry and we don't know what their part will be," the mayor said. The board signaled it preferred to avoid duplicative registration requirements if the county takes the lead.
No final amendments or votes were taken. The board asked staff to continue to consult with county officials and to return with a recommended local approach once the county clarifies its registry plans.
