Board approves renewal of Air Force JROTC agreement at Central High School

The Keller ISD Board of Trustees approved a memorandum of agreement (MOA) renewing the Air Force Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (AFJROTC) unit at Central High School for the 2025–26 school year.
Dr. Shivers presented the item, describing AFJROTC as a voluntary citizenship, aerospace science and leadership program for students in grades 9–12. "Central High School has hosted the AFJROTC program since 2004," Dr. Shivers said, and the administration projected 110 cadets for 2025–26, including a freshman class. "Cadets also participate in a minimum of 25 community service hours and serve our community through nine-eleven ceremonies, wreaths across America, Veterans Day Parades, food drives, numerous KISD events, and Keller's Adopt a Street program," Dr. Shivers said.
Dr. Shivers noted two senior cadets have been accepted to the United States Air Force Academy for fall 2025. The current MOA expires June 30, 2025; the renewal is required for the Air Force to authorize the program for the next school year.
The board voted to approve the renewal; the motion passed on a 7–0 vote.
Why it matters: AFJROTC is an established district program that provides leadership training, community service and pathways to military academies for participating students. Renewal preserves the program at Central High School for the coming year.
Ending: The administration recommended renewal "as presented," and the board approved it unanimously.
