Library board praises new reading garden, asks trustees to consider expanded hours

Library trustees told the Board of Trustees that the Bronxville Public Library’s new reading garden has significantly increased daytime use and driven interest in expanded hours.
Christina Kredikos, chair of the library board, said the garden enabled outdoor programming across age groups — from children’s arts and music classes to adult painting and Qigong — and that patrons often spend extended time working or socializing in the outdoor space. Kredikos said that demand has increased on Tuesday and Thursday mornings when the building is closed, and the library’s budget and hours review this spring will consider whether to expand service hours.
Amy Brown, president of the Friends of the Library, summarized upcoming programs and fundraising: a Fiona Davis author event on April 8 and a Friends fundraiser on April 25. Trustees thanked the library board and Friends for the volunteer and fundraising work that supports programming.
Kredikos presented resident feedback included in the library board’s report: patrons praised the library as a community space, highlighted museum-passes and teen programming, and described the library as a convenient and welcoming place for both short visits and longer stays. The board said it will return in April with budget details as part of the village’s budget cycle.
The presentation was informational; trustees did not take immediate action but acknowledged the library’s planned budget request and asked to be kept informed during the budget review.
