Planning board approves Underhills Crossing storefront doors and trim

Architect Maggie Maron, representing applicant Stephen Pong, told the board the proposal would replace two sets of French doors and upper wood panels with 8-foot-high folding doors and glass transoms. "He's trying to get a kind of a French feel," Maron said, and said the frames would be black anodized aluminum and the hardware would remain brass.
The board heard that the awning would remain unchanged and that the applicant would add down lighting under the awning; the existing high ceiling inside the space allows transom glass and folding doors to open fully to the sidewalk. Maron said the glass would be tempered, double-pane exterior door glass, and that the design includes divided lights and arches in the panels.
Board member Jim (last name not specified) confirmed that design-review had already considered the plan and that the three conditions recorded in those minutes — anodized aluminum finish, retained brass hardware and conversion to six-panel doors for the single-pane units — are reflected in the submitted plans. "So this is consistent with what design review envisioned or discussed," he said.
After a brief public-comment period with no speakers, a board member made a motion to approve the application. The motion was seconded and the board voted unanimously "Aye" to approve the site-plan changes.
The approval covers the door replacements, the transom glazing, the specified finish and hardware, and the lighting changes as shown on the submitted plans. No changes to the awning were approved beyond the applicant's plan to keep it "very similar," and the minutes show no additional conditions were imposed.
Documents in the meeting record state the applicant will maintain the high-level lighting fixtures and add down lights under the awning; they will use double-pane tempered glass for the exterior doors. The record includes the design-review minutes as prior context for the materials and hardware choices.
The board closed the item after the unanimous vote and moved on to the next agenda item.
