Bronxville administrator outlines March 18 village election, outdoor dining dates, downtown improvements and green projects

Village Administrator Jim Palmer told trustees on March 10 that village elections will be held Tuesday, March 18, with polling places open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., and he reviewed the seven district polling locations and a sample ballot posted on the village website.
Palmer also announced the outdoor dining season will run April 15 through Nov. 15. Operators approved last year were asked to submit complete applications so staff, the police chief and the building inspector can confirm compliance and safety; if applications are complete the administration said it would allow preparatory work a week earlier than the April 15 opening. “That’s the earliest that they can start serving,” Palmer said about restaurants.
On public works, Palmer described ongoing downtown median and curb work, an intention to pave Palm Field and restripe crosswalks with a reflective adhesive material that the village said is more durable and visible than traditional paint. He said DPW has been sweeping, filling potholes and cleaning catch basins after a rough winter and encouraged property owners whose sidewalks abut private property to repair uneven sections because abutting owners are responsible for sidewalk conditions.
On green initiatives, trustees said the Green Committee obtained grant funding from Con Edison and the state to add two double EV chargers in the Cedar Street lot—adding four charging slots—at no cost to the village. They reported the village’s food-scrap recycling program has doubled the weight of material collected over the last year. Engineers are measuring the DPW roof to prepare specifications for a solar bid expected at month’s end.
Trustees also highlighted community institutions and events: the Picture House fundraising gala, the Counseling Center’s upcoming gala, and Iona College’s outreach including plans to house about 70 students in a renovated residential hall on the former Concordia campus, an on-campus shuttle to New Rochelle, and proposed improvements at the White Plains Road baseball field (plans currently before the planning board).
Trustees and staff asked residents to consult the village website for polling locations, sample ballots and the posted budget when available. The village administrator said he would deliver the proposed budget to the board by the end of the following week and that comments are welcome.
