PORT ARTHUR, Texas — The Port Arthur Independent School District Board of Trustees on March 27 approved routine business items and several personnel motions, while district staff used their report to preview April STAAR testing, celebrate student and staff achievements and announce a community town hall and a Good Friday closure.
In a brief staff report early in the meeting, Dr. Corey reminded the board that STAAR testing will begin in April with English I and urged the community to ensure students are rested and ready. "We want them to come to school ready to learn, in a good mood, not hungry... make sure they get a great night's sleep because our testing will go through the month of April," Dr. Corey said.
The district highlighted multiple student accomplishments, including CTE students who won more than $21,000 in scholarships at the UTI Top Tech Challenge, a Memorial High School student named to the Whataburger Super Team, a student co-author whose book is available on Amazon and teacher recognition…
