Bronxville approves library workroom renovation, engineering for boiler replacement; grants to cover part of costs

The Village of Bronxville approved library capital work and related engineering services at the Jan. 13 meeting.
Trustees accepted the low bidder, Chameleon Sons, for the library workroom renovation. The project total was stated as $179,630; the village said approximately $55,000 of that will be covered by a New York State library construction grant. The remaining cost was described as split roughly equally: $70,315 from the village's unassigned fund balance and $70,000 from the library's fund balance. Library Board Chair Christina Caracos and Library Director Greg spoke in support of the project, saying the workroom had not been renovated in decades and that improvements would increase staff efficiency and public service.
Separately, trustees authorized retaining OLA Consulting Engineers to prepare design and oversee construction for the library boiler and heating system replacement at a cost of $49,700, to be funded from the library fund balance. The board recognized a $100,000 DASNY (State) grant that will apply to the boiler project. Officials said the existing library boiler had exceeded its useful life and the project includes converting from oil-fired equipment to a gas-fired burner with related piping and system work.
Both actions passed by voice vote. The board emphasized the work is intended to improve energy efficiency and staff workflow and that further procurement and construction steps will return to the board for approval as needed.
