Resident urges coordinated plan after semis blocked Northwest 48 area during interstate closure

A resident and neighborhood speaker, John Ryef of West Hubhall Drive, told the council that on March 19 an interstate closure funneled hundreds of semitrailers onto Northwest 48th Avenue and nearby residential streets, blocking roundabouts, damaging landscaping and limiting emergency vehicle access.
Ryef said the parking and congestion extended from the interstate off-ramp through neighborhood streets and into school parking lots, and that roundabouts and lanes became impassable. He asked the council to coordinate a strategic plan with the Lincoln Police Department and the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office so that, in future interstate closures, large trucks are directed through industrial streets (between West Mathis and the Old Airpark area) rather than residential neighborhoods until storms or hazards subside.
Ryef offered photographic evidence of damage to roundabouts and parking lots. The council thanked him for the report; no formal action was recorded during the meeting and the clerk noted public comment was received.
