County commissioners create juvenile detention medical post, approve courthouse security agreement and several fair contracts

The Okanogan County Board of Commissioners on Monday approved a resolution creating a juvenile detention medical services officer position and signed a memorandum of agreement to continue courthouse security staffing, and the board awarded several fair-related contracts, county staff and commissioners said.
Shelby Keithsman, human resources director and risk manager, presented the resolution creating the juvenile detention medical services officer position and told commissioners the position's funding would be drawn from multiple existing budget lines and that a scope-of-work document was available. Keithsman said the resolution includes a mix of department funding and a part-time position line already in the budget. The commissioners moved to adopt the resolution; the motion was seconded and carried unanimously.
The board also signed and accepted a memorandum of agreement between Okanogan County and the Okanogan County Sheriff's Employees Association (noncommissioned), allowing Pacific Security to provide courthouse security through June 30, 2025. The memorandum was presented to the board and adopted after a motion and second.
On fair contracting, the board accepted a bid from Harriman's Speedy Tank Service for portable restrooms at the Okanogan County Fair for $7,500 plus tax and awarded janitorial services for the fair to Samantha Valencia at $12,000. In a separate action the board accepted a bid for the county's newspaper of legal record; the contract will be prepared for a joint publication arrangement between the Methow Valley News and the Oroville Gazette-Tribune.
The actions were presented as routine contract and staffing approvals; commissioners asked no substantive follow-up questions before moving to votes. The clerk of the board was directed to prepare the contracts and resolutions as required.
