Alderman Anna Meadows proposed that the City of Pacific establish a small subcommittee of planning-and-zoning members to study local traffic bottlenecks and develop focused recommendations for the Board of Aldermen.
At the meeting Meadows said the city has discussed a traffic study but that an unscoped, overarching study would be costly and less useful than a targeted approach. She suggested volunteers from the planning and zoning commission identify key problem areas — Meadows named Lamar, Payne, First and Osage and the railroad crossings as examples — and then recommend where to concentrate any formal traffic analysis.
Meadows said she had not taken the proposal to the full Board of Aldermen and was seeking volunteer interest from the planning commission first. Commissioners and aldermen present said they were not opposed and that a smaller working group could help scope a study that would be more actionable and potentially save budget dollars. One commissioner said the Board of Aldermen had not yet put a traffic study into the upcoming budget and that a targeted subcommittee could help prioritize where to spend funds.
The group reached a preliminary consensus to form a subcommittee and agreed to place the idea on the agenda for a future meeting when more members are present; no formal vote or budget commitment was made at the session.
