Clallam County MRC approves meeting minutes and roles-and-responsibilities document

The Clallam County Marine Resources Committee voted to approve its January and February meeting minutes and the minutes of a special work session during the evening meeting. Committee member Nancy Steffens moved approval of the minutes; the motion received a second and passed by voice vote with no opposition, the chair announced.

Separately, the committee approved an updated "Duties of Clallam County MRC Officers and Members" document. The roles-and-responsibilities update emphasizes expectations for leads and co‑leads to recruit and organize MRC members and community volunteers to assist with project execution and field work. The roles document passed on a subsequent motion and second and was approved by voice vote with no opposition.

Committee members discussed whether the document should be shared with county staff (civil deputies/H.R.) and whether a standardized countywide advisory‑committee onboarding package exists; staff said there are county training expectations for open public meetings and public records but no single standardized bylaws packet for all advisory committees. The committee approved the roles document with the intent that staff would share it with appropriate county personnel for coordination.

Why it matters: The motions set formal expectations for member recruitment and onboarding and clarify lead versus staff responsibilities; the document will be used for new‑member orientation and to help define volunteer commitments within the MRC.
