San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools Ted Alejandre said this year’s San Bernardino County Science and Engineering Fair included more than 270 student participants in grades 4 through 12 competing across 22 categories such as animal science, biochemistry, environmental engineering, physics and robotics.
Alejandre said judges evaluated entries based on data collection, analysis and the broader impact of science on society and economics. Winning entries were recognized from schools and districts across the county; he added that for some students the fair may mark the start of a path toward state, national and international competitions.
Alejandre also mentioned SIMSEP, saying the program “continues to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators.” The remarks did not explain SIMSEP’s full name, structure or funding sources.
The county office did not provide dollar amounts, lists of winners by school, or which projects will advance beyond the county-level fair in the remarks.
