House approves $100,000 appropriation for rural elderly care program expansion

Representative Rios, the bill carrier, told members the request would fund the Community of Care program, a project begun in 2003 with the Good Samaritan Society that serves rural Cass County and helps seniors "age in place" by providing coordinated services, a one-stop service center staffed by a social worker, a faith community nurse program, volunteer transportation and outreach. On the floor, Representative Rios said the bill asks for a $100,000 appropriation to support the current program and start a similar program elsewhere in the state.
The House appropriations committee recommended do pass by a vote of 23–0. The final vote on the House floor was 84 yeas and 6 nays; the clerk declared the bill passed.
