Polk County adopts 2023 operating budget after brief public hearing

County staff said the $24,400 reduction alters the grant estimate but does not change the budget’s bottom-line in the way presented for adoption.
During the public hearing period, staff said the operating budget materials had been made available to the public in advance and that the detailed budget document and the shorter state-mandated summary sheet were included in the meeting packet. A supervisor asked whether an item labeled “lime quarry” remained designated for parks and trails; staff said proceeds from that sale — described as $1.5 million in prior materials — were held in the general fund but designated for parks and trails and would be carried forward into 2023 for parks and trails projects.
Board members also clarified the step increases: county staff told the board the funding for those pay-grade moves had already been included in the proposed budget and the technical correction was to report the accurate count (11) to committees, not to add new dollars.
After the presentation and a brief round of questions and thanks to staff for the budget document, a supervisor moved to adopt the resolution by roll-call vote. The board adopted Resolution 47-22 by roll-call with no recorded opposition.
