The Wheaton City Council on Feb. 3 approved an ordinance to create a DuPage County Governmental Center Zoning District and adopted a companion amendment to the city zoning map to rezone the county campus into that new district.
City Attorney Didier said the zoning amendment was before the council for a second reading after first appearing Jan. 21 and that it aligns with an intergovernmental agreement between the city and DuPage County entered in October 2024. "It amends the zoning ordinance to create a DuPage County Governmental Center Zoning District. And the amendment is in line with the intergovernmental agreement the city and the county entered into in October of 2024," Didier said. He also noted county representatives were present at the meeting.
The council moved and seconded the ordinance and then approved the zoning ordinance and the zoning map amendment by roll call. No public comments specific to this item were recorded in the transcript.
Votes at a glance: Both the ordinance creating the district and the zoning map amendment passed on unanimous roll call votes. Council members voting yes included Councilwoman Robbins; Councilmen Weller, Barbier, Brown and Clousing; Councilwoman Ray Parker; Mayor Seese; and Councilman Klauzinger (name as recorded in roll call).
The transcript does not state an ordinance number or list the zoning text changes; the record indicates the action is tied to an intergovernmental agreement executed in October 2024 but does not provide the agreement text in the meeting record.
