Mr. Eptegrove, the Parks and Recreation Director, presented renderings showing the proposed location behind the skate park and splash pad and said the project currently has $100,000 secured and needs approximately $41,000 more to reach the $141,000 subtotal the city plans to bid. He said the department intends to advertise the project for bids on April 4 and hopes construction will be completed by late June.
Eptegrove said the city reviewed alternative layouts, including converting the older skate park site; that option would raise project costs to about $231,000 and require replacing skateboarding facilities elsewhere. He also said lighting was removed from the current plan to meet budget: adding lights would increase the total project cost by about $43,000 to roughly $180,000.
A council member asked whether existing tennis courts near Kroger — which some players already use for pickleball — would remain. Eptegrove said those courts will remain available and added that shared use is possible.
