Wilmington honors three officers credited with saving a life during wellness check

Council presented official commendations to Sergeant Cole Holland, Officer Kelly Grogan and Officer Jonathan Polan for a January wellness check that, the city said, averted a suicide.
At the meeting, a city official described the Jan. 4 incident: officers responded to a suicide prevention hotline report, breached the residence after observing a person preparing a noose in a basement and secured the subject before any harm occurred. The subject was transported to Clinton Memorial Hospital for evaluation, the city said.
The mayor and council praised the officers’ professionalism. The city reading of the commendation said in part that “thanks to the heroic efforts and immediately life saving actions of these 3 officers, this individual is alive today and is receiving help.”
The presenter also recounted a separate recent life-squad response in which emergency medical personnel delivered twins and another call earlier in the week in which the squad assisted in childbirth, both cited as examples of first-responder actions the city commended.
Ending: Council gave the officers formal recognition; no policy action or vote accompanied the presentations.
