Committee recommends three state technology internships for TEA consent agenda

The three proposals the committee reviewed were: - Christina Pruden, Highland Community College, medical assistant internship at Mosaic Life Care (industry cash match to salary). - Erin Carnes, Washburn Institute of Technology, automotive technology internship at the stated auto repair partner (industry provided salary match and mentoring time). - Richard Anderson, Washburn Institute of Technology, machine tool internship at GA Precision (industry salary match plus training and mentoring time).
Marie Hall, assistant dean for curriculum at Washburn Tech, joined on behalf of instructors and described prior positive experiences with internships and business partners. Richard Anderson, a prospective intern, said he formed the GA Precision connection after meeting company employees and visiting their shop.
A committee member moved to recommend the three internships for placement on the TEA consent agenda; a second was recorded and the committee approved the recommendation by voice vote with no negative votes stated. The committee noted the projects' objective is to update faculty skills, inform course updates, and improve students’ access to current industry practices. Committee members indicated the grants could be placed on the consent agenda for the TEA’s consideration.
No dollar amounts beyond the grant caps were approved by the committee; industry match contributions and the internship descriptions are included in the proposals presented to the committee.
