Shreveport Police Department representatives updated the Public Safety Committee on vehicle deliveries, work to get vehicles into service, and continued negotiations to buy a building for a Southeast substation.
Deputy Chief White said the department took possession of 58 new vehicles: 47 2025 Explorers and 11 F‑150 pickups, though one Explorer was damaged during transport. He said 29 units have been completed and placed in service in various units; 18 remain in the outfitting chain (radio shop, graphics, camera installation) and the department expects them to be finished by the end of the month.
Council members asked why some new cruisers were seen on patrol without license plates; staff said vehicles are in various stages of completion and will receive plates before final assignment. Councilman Butcher raised concerns about officers stopping motorists for missing plates while some city units are also missing plates; police acknowledged the optics and said plates are forthcoming.
On the Southeast substation at 8509 Line Avenue, Mr. Dart (city staff) told the committee there had been recent correspondence from the property's agent and that staff were weighing the response; the mayor had reviewed the matter earlier that day. Council members said they supported the location but cautioned staff not to pay more than appraised market value.
Committee members also asked about the police firing range and were told abatement and renovation work had increased costs due to unexpected lead remediation; staff expected the range to be operational by the end of April.
Ending: Police reiterated they are completing vehicle outfitting and will return with a timeline; the city continues negotiations over the Line Avenue property and will report further when the appraisal/counteroffer process advances.
