Organizers of a new festival, Jazz Fest on the Red, presented plans to the City Council for an inaugural event at Riverview Park on April 12 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Charity Moran, a managing partner, told the council the festival aims to “uplift the past, present, and future legacy of jazz” in the Shreveport‑Bossier community and to raise scholarship funds for local high‑school jazz students. The event will feature more than a dozen acts, including student bands and local artists, a headliner listed as Dorsey Summerfield Jr., a kids zone sponsored by Ochsner LSU Health, 26 local merchants and about 19 food vendors.
Tickets start at $12.50; a VIP package was described with a food and wine pairing and premium seating. Organizers said the event will be rain or shine and that they have secured sponsors and partners to provide seating and shelter as needed.
Council members thanked the organizers and invited residents to the riverfront event; no council action was required.
