Carter County commissioners authorized staff to solicit quotes for a new work pickup and to advertise a 2011 Dodge county pickup for sealed bids. Commissioners discussed using available capital-line funds from the road department’s current-year allocation to buy replacements and avoid increasing next year’s budget.
Board members reviewed the Dodge pickup’s condition (about 194,000 miles reported) and said they did not want to sink more money into extensive repairs. Commissioners agreed sealed bids with a modest minimum (a suggestion of $1,500 was discussed) were an appropriate disposal method. The board also directed staff to gather quotes for a ¾-ton or one-ton work truck with basic work-truck options and to consider government-purchase pricing and piggybacking onto other recent purchases to obtain comparable vehicles.
A motion to seek quotes for a new pickup and place the 2011 Dodge into sealed bids was made, seconded and carried. Commissioners discussed where to advertise and what technical specifications to include in the public notice.
