The commissioners accepted the highest verbal offer of $1,200 for the county pickup after officials confirmed the vehicle had a previously stated minimum of $1,500 and that the winning bidder would provide a signed check as proof of purchase. Carl Knapp, road supervisor, reported the two verbal offers and the pickup’s condition at the meeting. The motion to approve the sale carried after an oral public-check confirmation and an “aye” vote by the board.
The commissioners also approved a motion to purchase a 6x6 chassis located in the eastern U.S. from Allegiance Trucks, for $59,090 plus a $6,000 delivery charge, for a total delivered price of about $65,090. County staff said the chassis is 6x6, the right length for a 14-foot dump body, and that plow equipment would be ordered in next year’s budget because lead times for plow gear are roughly eight months. Commissioners said the county has capital outlay funds available to buy the chassis this fiscal year and would budget separately for plow equipment.
Commissioners discussed alternatives and previous buying experience: staff said Allegiance Trucks had delivered earlier purchases for the county and that buying a chassis now would allow the county to order plow equipment this year for delivery and installation next fall. Commissioners asked staff to obtain written quotes and invoices to document the purchase. The board voted to approve the purchase and authorized staff to arrange delivery and purchase orders.
The board recorded both decisions to appear in county minutes and asked that signed documentation (a buyer’s check for the pickup and written quotes/invoices for the truck) be kept with county purchasing records.
