Tom Green County Commissioners Court on Feb. 11 accepted the county's 2024 State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAP) grant award of $20,171 and adopted a budget amendment to expend the funds.
County staff said the SCAP award, a long-running program the county has received for decades, helps offset the cost of housing criminal aliens in the county detention center. Staff indicated the funds are typically used to pay for detention officer salaries and the presented budget amendment will enable the county to expend the award.
The court voted to accept the grant and adopt the budget amendment by voice vote.
