At the meeting’s public‑comment period, resident Lucas Van Austau told the West Carrollton City Council the local food pantry has increased demand and now serves "over a thousand people a month" across the West Carrollton school district and neighboring areas.
Van Austau, who identified his address on the record, said the church-run pantry had been "officially open since sometime in August" and that demand has risen, serving people in West Carrollton, Moraine and Miamisburg. He also said the pantry operates separately from the church under the name Harvest Food Pantry for donation and EIN purposes. On the record he said, "Our food pantry numbers have went up to we're feeding over a thousand people a month. And that is just in the West Carrollton School District."
Council members and city officials used the meeting to thank city staff and contractors for snow‑removal efforts during a recent storm. Chief Woodard thanked public works crews, saying the work they did "does not go unnoticed" and added thanks for long hours. Multiple council members echoed that praise: Councilor Boyle said street and public works crews' pre‑treatment and overnight work kept streets clear; Councilor Tilton, Councilor Tomlin, Councilor Zenny and Mayor Barnhart also publicly thanked staff and volunteers.
Separately, city staff announced a 2025 dog license renewal event to be held at the Civic Center from 5 to 7 p.m. the following day and encouraged refuse customers to participate in a recycling survey available on the city's website and Facebook page.
