Jay Murphy and Kyle Copeland said consolidation merits study but warned of legal and financial hurdles. Murphy: “I guess it could be looked into…the town is 70 square miles.” Copeland suggested the precincts could coordinate purchasing to save money even without full consolidation: “Can the 3 of you work together on purchasing and things that are responding to save a few bucks?”
Candidates and residents also discussed whether multiple chief and administrative positions increase costs. Dallas Emery and others noted prior studies and said precinct votes or further analysis would be required; Emery observed that precincts would need to agree and noted that previous feasibility work found consolidation financially complex.
