Willowick swears in two officers and honors sergeant on retirement

The council also read a special proclamation honoring Sergeant John G. Beckwith, who retired effective Jan. 2 after roughly 30 years with the department. The proclamation recounted Beckwith’s service history: beginning as a patrol officer in January 1995, promotion to sergeant on March 2, 2021, service on the Western Lake County SWAT team beginning in 2001 as an entry person, work as a firearms instructor, and past service as president of the department’s FOP chapter. Mayor Manning presented the proclamation and extended appreciation for Beckwith’s service.
The mayor invited those present to a post-ceremony celebration.
No formal council action (ordinance or vote) was recorded for the swearing-in or the proclamation beyond the ceremonial readings and the mayor’s presentation.
