Madison County Commission adopts Farmers Market handbook, approves routine contracts and appointments

The Madison County Commission adopted a revised Farmers Market Handbook for 2025, approved multiple appointments and routine contracts, and passed a ceremonial resolution recognizing the national “2 Lights for Tomorrow” initiative during its public meeting.

The handbook change adopted by the commission formalizes market hours as Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and adjusts stall rental rates at the Cook Avenue Farmers Market. “This handbook identifies the market hours as Saturdays from 8 to 4PM and also adjusts some of the rental rates,” said Mr. Rich, county staff, describing the changes presented to the commission. The measure passed on a voice vote.

Why it matters: The handbook sets operational details used by vendors and county staff and will guide enforcement and leasing at the market while county staff pursue longer-term decisions about the market’s commercial end and tenant arrangements.

In other actions the commission reappointed three members to the Madison County Communications District Board. The mayor of Huntsville recommended William Woody Sanderson for Place 3, the City and county jointly reappointed Alan Bibb for Place 4, and Dr. Lee Bradford was reappointed to Place 5. Each appointment was approved by voice vote.

The commission adopted a ceremonial resolution supporting the nationwide 2-Lights-for-Tomorrow initiative and requested the governor’s proclamation recognizing April 19 as a day of community service and recognition.
