Council approves minutes, consent items and Arbor Day proclamation; staff briefed public on housing study and safety hiring

The City of Wyoming council on March 18 approved routine minutes and consent items and adopted a proclamation marking Arbor Day in Wyoming on April 25, 2025. The council also received staff communications on county housing research and public-safety staffing.
The council approved the minutes of the regular March 4 meeting and the March 4 work session by voice vote after a motion from Member Anstead and a second from Member Schilling. The consent agenda items (3, 4 and 5) were approved on a motion from Member Schilling and a second from Member Onstead.
Under communications, staff announced that the Chisago County Assessor will hold the Board of Equalization for the City of Wyoming on April 15, 2025, at 6 p.m. at the Wyoming Library; staff said the city will post signage and publish the notice in county media and on the city website.
City staff also summarized the recently completed Chisago County housing study by Maxfield Research, saying it documents tight local housing conditions and will be useful to developers. Staff noted a county-organized event to present the study on March 21 in North Branch and said the report will be posted on the city’s website.
Neil Bauer, the city’s public safety director, told the council that local media coverage of the city’s EMS–only responder position generated interest; he said the department had received “probably 5 applicants since then, if not more.” Bauer also confirmed the city’s residency requirement for applicants is an eight-minute response-time expectation.
The council also unanimously approved a proclamation declaring April 25, 2025, Arbor Day in Wyoming and noted a staff-organized planting event scheduled for April 26; additional details will be provided at a future meeting.
Other council business included a short community report on the Wyoming Medallion Hunt; staff said the medallion was hidden in Swenson’s Park and that the 2025 winner was Emily Radditz.
The council adjourned at the end of the meeting after a motion and second.
