The Wyoming City Council approved advertising for a full‑time public works maintenance worker position that staff said was included in the 2024 rate study and the 2025 budget.
Public works staff member Mr. Reeves told the council the city has an opening and would like to advertise for the full-time equivalent (FTE) position to gather applicants. Council members asked about the funding split and how much of the position would be devoted to utility work. Reeves said the position will be on a rotation that places the new hire on the utility on-call rotation roughly every sixth or seventh week and that utility duties will be a significant portion of the work but noted that the 81% figure some members cited came from wage-only calculations and did not represent total compensation and benefits.
Council discussion touched on the city’s growth and infrastructure needs, MS4 reporting and other regulatory responsibilities, and the possibility of upcoming retirements and knowledge transfer. Member Lugar confirmed the position had been included in the 2025 budget; Member Luca moved to advertise, Member Anstead seconded, and the motion passed by voice vote.
Council asked staff to provide additional detail on utility workload allocation and infrastructure mileage as part of follow-up reporting.
