The council passed Resolution 25-003.27 after staff recommended accepting a proposal from Saint Croix Recreation. The recommendation includes a play structure and related site work, plus an ADA-compliant swing that staff said adds $1,107 to the vendor price.
The resolution matters because Fireside Park was identified in the city’s 2022 park and trails master plan as needing substantial equipment replacement, and the Park Advisory Commission led a local outreach and procurement process. Staff said a 155-resident survey of nearby households guided the commission’s request for proposals and that the commission reviewed multiple bids before recommending Saint Croix Recreation.
City staff described the selected equipment as previously assembled for an exposition in Minneapolis, which the vendor classified as used; staff said that classification produced a discount and helped keep the project within budget. The package includes concrete borders, engineered wood fiber safety surfacing and seven pieces of play equipment for children ages roughly 2–12. Staff estimated a lead time of four to five weeks for installation.
Mayor Iverson praised the Park Advisory Commission and the inclusion of the ADA swing, calling the addition “near and dear to my heart.” Member Yeager asked about the condition of the equipment; staff said the structure is “brand” in condition despite being labeled used because it had been assembled only for the trade exposition. Councilmembers also discussed site-preparation options; staff said the city’s public works would perform groundwork and that a third-party removal service would remove older equipment at no charge in exchange for taking the removed pieces.
The motion to approve the resolution was made by Mayor Iverson, seconded by Member Onstead, and passed by voice vote.
The council did not set a specific installation date at the meeting but staff said it will follow the vendor’s four- to five-week lead time and will return with any final scheduling or ribbon-cutting details.
