Committee approves technical fix aligning unclaimed property statute with 2024 reforms

Representative John Shirts said Senate Bill 1037 reconciles a conflict created last year when the Legislature amended the Unclaimed State Property Act; the bill removes redundant disbursement language now covered by the 2024 revision.
"Last year this body ended up changing the unclaimed state property act. This conflicted with 66-6906 which is the disbursement relating to different veterans deceased property. That is now in that unclaimed property act that you all amended last year. So this just changes and strikes what is in this that is now taken care of in that revised 2024 piece of legislation," Shirts said.
A committee motion to send Senate Bill 1037 to the floor with a due-pass recommendation carried by voice vote. No substantive opposition was recorded in committee testimony.
