The County Assessor (name not specified) said notices of valuation for 2025 will be mailed April 1 and urged property owners to review them carefully. “You have 30 days to file a protest,” the assessor said, adding that the deadline to make changes is May 1. The assessor also said House Bill 47 increased the veterans’ exemption from $4,000 to $10,000 for the 2025 tax year and that the assessor’s office has submitted the county valuation to the Property Tax Division for review.
County Treasurer Khan reminded residents that second-half property-tax collections start April 10 and that payments received after May 10 will incur penalty and interest. He described the county’s process for delinquent accounts: properties delinquent for 36 months are reported to the Property Tax Division; the treasurer urged taxpayers to bring 2022 taxes current by June 30 to avoid state handling of collections.
Sheriff (name not specified) warned the public about an ongoing phone scam in which callers falsely claim to be sheriff’s-office employees and demand payment or threaten consequences. The sheriff provided the office phone number, (575) 574-0100, and encouraged residents to call to verify any suspicious calls.
