Councilmember Tara Grenings, Stonecrest city council representative for District 1, used remarks at a Stonecrest City Council meeting to mark Women’s History Month and to describe the people who inspire her.
"For me, Women’s History Month is a powerful reminder of the strength, resilience, and beauty of women, especially as a Black woman," Grenings said. She named Rosa Parks and Coretta Scott King among the historic figures she draws on and said her closest source of daily inspiration is her group of friends.
"It's 5 of us that no matter what we're going through, we're always there," Grenings told the council. She described how that circle supported her decision to run for council: "When I decided to run for council, I called my friends and they were front and center, like, how can I help you? Or what do we need to do to help you accomplish your goals?"
Grenings urged others considering public service to proceed incrementally: "To anyone inspiring to follow in my footsteps, I encourage them to take 1 step at a time." She also framed her aims for the city in broad, community-focused terms: "The impact I hope to make in the city of Stonecrest is to inspire positivity. I want our name to invoke thoughts of positivity in beautiful spaces that everyone can take pride in and contribute to fostering growth and a sense of community."
Grenings closed the remarks by identifying herself and restating her local pride: "I am Tara Grenings, your city council representative for District 1, and I am Stonecrest proud."
