Council approves $120,334 personnel appropriation for Employee Services

The Monroe County Council on March 25 approved an additional appropriation of $120,334 to the Employee Services department’s personnel budget to cover classification changes approved last fall and a new position.
Employee Services explained the request as a housekeeping action needed because last year’s internal fund shifts did not fully cover the classification changes and the newly created position. The department representative told the council that the office moved funds where possible but requires the additional appropriation to fully fund the classifications and the new hire.
Councilor Hawk recorded a no vote and said she opposed additions she had not supported during budget hearings and urged commissioners to find the dollars in their budgets. Other councilors said the county committed to the position and supported funding it. After no public comment, roll call recorded Councilor Iverson, yes; Councilor Henry, yes; Councilor Wilts, yes; Councilor Bridal, yes; Councilor Deckard, yes; Councilor Hawk, no. The council president announced the motion passed by a 5–1 margin.
The department said the appropriation will be used to finalize compensation for classifications and the newly approved position and to complete payroll adjustments.
