The Monroe County Council unanimously approved the Emergency Management Department’s request to accept and appropriate up to $55,000 from the federal Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) to reimburse salary and benefits costs.
Deputy Director Justin Baker described the grant as an annual award that reimburses the county for salary and benefits tied to emergency‑management work and said the grant covers compliance requirements including timesheet submission and an annual exercise. "This is our annual grant that we get each year that reimburses the County, up to 55,000 for our salary and benefits," Baker told the council.
Councilors praised the department’s work and asked about timing; Baker confirmed the reimbursement covered 2024 costs. After public comment period produced no speakers, council voted on a roll call: Councilor Wilts, yes; Councilor Hawk, yes; Councilor Deckard, yes; Councilor Henry, yes; Councilor Iverson, yes; Councilor Bridal, yes. The council president announced the motion passed unanimously.
The appropriation will be implemented in Fund 8188‑9624 (EMPG Salary Fund). Councilors urged residents to sign up for county alerting systems and follow Emergency Management for storm preparedness information.
