Starr County court approves lease, surplus transfers, workforce agreement and NDA in routine business

Starr County commissioners on Feb. 3 approved multiple routine agenda items by voice vote, including transfers of surplus property, a lease for a daycare site, a workforce agreement and authorization to enter a nondisclosure agreement for an economic development review.

The court approved transferring surplus county property to emergency management, the county auditor's office and to Prison 2 and Prison 3. The court also approved a lease between New Gator Daycare Center LLC and the county for Precinct 3. A separate agreement was approved between an identified party (referred to in the transcript as "person 3") and Workforce Solutions to add a part-time employee.

On a separate agenda item the court authorized the county judge, in consultation with the county attorney, to enter into a nondisclosure agreement for Starr County Industrial Foundation project 2025100 "for the limited purpose of evaluating economic development and incentives initiatives, which will necessarily include confidential or proprietary information that requires guaranteed protection," according to the motion presented to the court. That item passed on a voice vote.

All of the listed items were moved, seconded and approved without recorded roll-call votes. Commissioner Fed was noted absent at the meeting opening.

Why it matters: The lease and workforce agreement authorize ongoing local operations and staffing; the NDA allows county leaders to evaluate potential economic development projects while protecting confidential information.

The court adjourned after the routine items were approved.
