During the Feb. 25 meeting council discussed possible fiscal-year 2025 budget amendments and longer-term street-rehabilitation priorities and met in closed session on labor negotiations with the local IAFF chapter.
Councilmember discussion included a proposal to allocate $200,000 from reserves toward street rehabilitation to address multiple neighborhood road needs; the member framed the transfer as a starting point and acknowledged the amount would not fully fund any single street project. The item was discussed and council said it would continue to review the request; no immediate budget action was taken during open session.
The council recessed into executive session under Texas Government Code Section 551.071 to consult with legal counsel and deliberate on collective-bargaining agreement negotiations with the International Association of Fire Fighters (Local 1432). After reconvening to open session, council voted to allow city attorney Mike Koontz and city staff to continue negotiations with the IAFF. That motion passed by recorded ayes from councilmembers present.
Council said staff would return with any budget amendment recommendations following the special-call meeting discussion and further internal review.
