A Rowlett council member said the city will submit a nominee to the Rockwall Central Appraisal District board to fill a recent vacancy and asked the city attorney to prepare a resolution for the March 18 City Council meeting to make that nomination official.
The council member said he had contacted prospective nominees and that Dr. Steve Horwitz "said he would be interested and would be looking into it as well." The council discussed that as a taxing unit Rowlett is entitled to submit one nominee within 45 days of notification; the district’s board of directors would then choose a person by majority vote from the list of nominees provided by taxing units.
The council member reported he had also contacted Wayne Baxter but had not received a response. Council members indicated no objection to forwarding Horwitz’s name. The council requested the city attorney to draft a resolution to appear on the March 18 agenda; the nominee’s appointment remains contingent on the Rockwall Central Appraisal District board selecting him from among nominees submitted by all taxing units in the county.
No formal council vote was recorded during the work session; the transcript records direction to staff to prepare a resolution and the council’s informal agreement to advance Dr. Horwitz’s name for nomination.
