Rowlett police present life‑saving award to Detective Jeff Freeman after infant resuscitation

The Rowlett Police Department presented Detective Jeff Freeman with the department’s Life Saving Award during the Jan. 21 City Council meeting after Freeman performed CPR on an unresponsive infant on Aug. 27, 2024.
According to the department’s account, Detective Freeman heard a dispatch reporting an unconscious baby on the 6200 block of Nassau Drive while he was a few blocks away. He arrived within minutes, began chest compressions and continued assisting paramedics until the infant regained consciousness and began crying about 10 minutes after the initial dispatch. The infant was transported to Baylor Scott & White and later transferred to a children’s hospital in Dallas.
The Rowlett Police Department Meritorious Conduct Review Board reviewed the incident and unanimously recommended the Life Saving Award; the department said it concurred. “It is my honor to award him with our Police Department Life Saving Award for actions taken to save a human life,” the presenter said at the council meeting.
City officials told council they had contacted the family and that the baby is healthy and thriving. The department noted Detective Freeman has served roughly 29 years in law enforcement and that this was the first time in his career the department has made this recognition.
Detective Freeman and Rowlett Police Department personnel appeared at the council meeting to receive the award.
