The Charlottesville City Schools Board of Education on March 27 approved a three-year collective bargaining agreement covering July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2028. The board approved the contract in a roll-call vote after a brief presentation from the superintendent and a bargaining team representative.
Superintendent Dr. Gurley told the board the agreement “signifies a collaborative approach” and called approval a step toward “enhancing fair work conditions, competitive compensation, strong partnerships between employees and the school division.” He said the agreement will support recruitment and retention and establish clearer expectations for staff.
Board members did not debate the contract at length before voting. The board took a recorded roll-call vote; all members present voted in favor. After the vote, Dr. Gurley thanked bargaining team members and educators who joined at the dais for a photo.
What the agreement covers: according to the presentation, the contract specifies employee rights, work days and schedules, compensation, stipends and additional roles, and management rights. District leaders said those topics were the core elements of the negotiated document and that approval is intended to provide stability for staff over the next three school years.
The board did not discuss changes to district policy tied to the agreement during the meeting; implementation steps and any budgetary impacts were described as part of standard staff follow-up.
Votes at a glance: The board approved the contract by roll-call vote. The vote record provided during the meeting showed all members present voting yes.
Next steps: The administration will implement the contract terms beginning July 1, 2025, and has said it will communicate operational details to employees and the public ahead of the new fiscal year.
