Committee recommends confirmation of Janet Ceballos to Families Education Preschool and Promise levy oversight panel

The Library's Education and Neighborhoods Committee recommended confirmation of Janet Ceballos to the Families Education Preschool and Promise Levy Oversight Committee on March 27, 2025, forwarding the appointment to the full Seattle City Council by a 5-0 roll-call vote.

The appointment matters because the levy oversight committee reviews how levy funds are spent for early learning and related family education programs. Committee members said Ceballos’s practice experience will inform oversight of service delivery funded by the levy.

Chair Maritza Rivera moved the confirmation and Vice Chair Rink seconded the motion. The clerk read the appointment into the record as "appointment 03/1000, the appointment of Janet Ceballos as member of the Families Education Preschool and Promise Levy Oversight Committee for a term to 12/31/2026." Committee members Solomon, Moore, Hollingsworth, Vice Chair Rink and Chair Rivera voted in favor. No members opposed.

Janet Ceballos joined the meeting virtually and summarized her background. Ceballos said, “I’m very excited to be part of this committee and I hope I can work collaboratively with everyone.” Committee members thanked her for volunteering for the unpaid position and noted her experience as relevant to the committee’s responsibilities.

According to remarks to the committee, Ceballos has more than 20 years of experience as a social worker in King County, holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Washington and has served as a social service manager at the Alzheimer’s Foundation, a medical social worker at Providence Health in Seattle, a school social worker in the Highline School District and is currently a school social worker for Seattle Public Schools.

The committee recommendation will go to the full City Council for final confirmation.
