County orders study to identify repairs after water and air infiltration at courthouse roof

The McLeod County Board approved a professional study to identify the scope and cost of repairs to the courthouse roof after county staff reported water and air infiltration.
County staff presented a proposal for a courthouse roof study priced at $22,440 and recommended the cost come from the county buildings major repair budget. The consultant estimate is based on approximately 136 hours of work at an average hourly rate of $165. The study will include a multi-disciplinary team (architect and engineers), a building walk-through, a project cost analysis and a project schedule.
Staff said the study will produce a comprehensive review of existing conditions, proposed solutions, financial impacts of construction and a timeline for potential repair work. Commissioners and staff noted the courthouse issues have been known for some time and said the study is a next step to preserve the building’s integrity.
Motion and vote: Commissioner Wright moved to approve the proposal; Commissioner Chochka (second) supported. The motion carried by voice vote.
Staff will return with the consultant’s report and schedule for any recommended repair work.
