The Everett School Committee on March 17 voted 8-0 to approve a memorandum of agreement between Everett Public Schools and the Everett Teachers Association, Unit B (administrators). The committee described the agreement as a three-year contract and said its ratification completes negotiations across all bargaining units in the district.
Superintendent Bill Hodge and members of the bargaining team described highlights of the agreement. School Committee member Almeda Barros thanked the bargaining subcommittee for the collaborative process. The chairperson, a member of the bargaining team, thanked Unit B representatives—identified in committee remarks as Mr. Murphy, Ms. Desisto and Ms. Kalakidas—and said the contract ratified by Unit B included these changes: eligibility to apply for stipend positions such as coaching; a new longevity category; paid parental leave aligned with Unit A; updated bereavement language to reflect modern households; two additional vacation days; and salary increases across the contract term.
Committee members noted Unit B represents a smaller group of administrators (the committee referenced about 24 individuals) while other bargaining units are larger. Committee members praised the cooperative negotiations and said the agreement was ratified by Unit B with an overwhelming majority.
A motion for favorable action to approve the memorandum of agreement was made by Mayor DeMaria and seconded by Miss Christiano; roll-call voting was unanimous in favor. The committee recorded the action as approval of the MOA; implementation of contractual terms will follow standard payroll and human-resources procedures.
