Commission awards Precision Paving contract for West Monroe Street resurfacing; city share about 7%

The Sandusky City Commission on March 24 approved an ordinance authorizing the city manager to enter into a contract with Precision Paving Inc. for the West Monroe Street resurfacing project.
Staff and commissioners described the work as part of a multi-year effort on Monroe Street and said the city’s share is a small percentage of the total project cost. “This is just under 7%, right around $70,000 of over a million dollars is coming from the city's budget,” one commissioner said. Staff added the project advanced because state and federal partners and a funder working with the city helped increase the grant amount after the award, reducing the city's share.
City engineering staff said another Monroe Street segment will be resurfaced next year (from Camp to Cater) to complete the street work. Commissioners praised staff for leveraging grant funds and partnerships tied to a private expansion to secure the resurfacing.
The ordinance passed on a roll call; staff will proceed to schedule resurfacing work and receive bids for final paving where needed.
