The committee accepted language Wednesday to allow the military division to implement employee compensation changes necessary to maintain parity with federal pay schedules for National Guard personnel.
Frances Lippitt, budget and policy analyst with Legislative Services, told the committee the military division is statutorily required to maintain parity with the federal general schedule pay scale for National Guard administration compensation. She explained restrictions in current language could prevent implementing needed state pay changes. Lippitt said the requested language would provide an exemption so the division can align state compensation changes with federal adjustments.
Committee members discussed the analogy to other state salary adjustments and affirmed the need to maintain consistent pay grades for enlisted and officer ranks. A unanimous-consent request to accept the language was made and no members objected; the language was approved and will proceed with a due-pass recommendation.
