Medical Lake Planning Commission elects temporary chair, adjusts April meeting date and tables park naming

At its March 25 meeting, the Medical Lake Planning Commission elected Commissioner Carl Munson to serve as chair for the meeting, approved the agenda and minutes, moved the April meeting from April 24 to April 17, and tabled two agenda items — the downtown park name and design standards — until the next meeting.

Alyssa Rodriguez, the city planner who opened the meeting in the absence of a chair and vice chair, said commission policies allow the planning director or designee to preside if both officer positions are vacant. Commissioners moved to elect a temporary chair; the motion to elect Commissioner Carl Munson passed by voice vote and Rodriguez turned the meeting over to him.

The commission unanimously approved an amendment to the agenda (to move the chair vote up) and then approved the agenda as amended. Members also approved the minutes from a prior meeting. Later in the session the commission voted to change the April 2025 meeting date from April 24 (fourth Thursday) to April 17 (third Thursday) to avoid a scheduling conflict with the annual Planning Association conference; one commissioner noted a scheduling conflict with that new date.

Two scheduled items were tabled for additional consideration at a future meeting: a proposed name for a downtown park and a discussion of design standards. Commissioners made and seconded motions to table both items; both motions carried on voice votes.

The meeting concluded with the adjournment motion carried by voice vote.
