The Doral Police Department held a ceremony to swear in new officers and promote veteran officers, department representatives said.
Department representatives framed public safety as the event's focus and highlighted recruiting officers who combine enforcement skills with community-oriented care. "Public safety being our number 1 priority, the safety of our community, today's new officer and promotional ceremony is extremely important," said Speaker 2, a Doral Police Department representative. "So we're super excited to welcome them into the Doral family, and we know the importance of community policing, and so do these men and women behind me."
Speaker 1, a Doral Police Department representative, described the range of skills officers must develop, saying it is "not only about law and order, it's also about having compassion, about having dignity, about having empathy and sympathy for a lot of the folks in the community." The representative said officers may face situations that vary dramatically from an active-shooter response to helping an elderly person who is injured.
A newly sworn or promoted officer identified as Speaker 3 said, "I feel great. I mean, it's been a long journey and a lot of sacrifices, a lot of challenges along the way. And to finally be here in this position, it's been really good." Speaker 3 added the opportunity to learn from different units and colleagues would help them grow as an officer.
The remarks emphasized the department's stated "zero tolerance for crime" while also seeking recruits who demonstrate compassion, according to the department representatives. The ceremony remarks did not include a count of officers sworn in or promoted, nor were any formal policy changes, votes, or funding decisions announced during the remarks.
No additional action items or follow-up deadlines were announced at the event.
